Why All My Work Has a “V” Appendix

Pursuing continuous improvement and rapid learning, I embrace a unique approach to my work — a philosophy called “The V Appendix.” This methodology involves iterating on nearly everything I do, from small-scale experiments to multi-million dollar projects. Allow me to share why this iterative mindset has been transformative for me.

Nearly every document or presentation I produce instinctively includes the suffix “V.” Whether it’s a Strategic Deck v3, 2024 Budget v6, or Company Party v8, the letter “V” becomes an automatic addition. It has become second nature to me — as soon as I create a new file, my fingers naturally gravitate toward the “V” key.

By constantly iterating, I expedite my understanding of the risks and potential benefits of any undertaking. Instead of waiting until the final stages to assess outcomes, I make incremental adjustments, ensuring I stay ahead of the game. This proactive approach has enabled me to adapt to dynamic environments and seize opportunities that may have been overlooked.

The “V” in the “V Appendix” represents the many versions I create during this iterative process. Sometimes, I reach version 20 — a result of multiple improvements and refinements over time. Other times, I realize that version 2 is sufficient and gracefully drop the idea. This flexible mindset allows me to pivot swiftly when necessary, optimizing efficiency and resource allocation.

Being agile and embracing the “V Appendix” has enhanced my problem-solving capabilities and driven innovation. It encourages me to challenge the status quo, experiment fearlessly, and remain open to feedback and new ideas, one (V)ersion at a time.

Whether you’re a small-scale entrepreneur or a leader overseeing multi-million dollar initiatives, I encourage you to adopt the “V Appendix” mindset. Embracing iteration and agility can unlock new levels of creativity, accelerate your understanding of project dynamics, and propel you toward success.
